The combination of obesity, cardiovascular disease and diabetes represents a huge health and economic burden for Australia. Obesity rates have more than doubled in Australia in the last two decades of the twentieth century, and are expected to continue to rise. In turn, projections suggest that the number of Australians with diabetes will double over the next 20 years, and the incidence of cardiovascular disease, the most common complication of diabetes, is also expected to continue to escalate. It is projected that over the next 20 years current obesity trends will result in substantially more hospital admissions and preventable premature deaths.
By supporting the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute you will help us in our quest to dramatically reduce death and disability caused by these debilitating diseases. Your vital contribution will allow us to progress critical research to ultimately improve methods of prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure for obesity, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
