Novel therapies for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes

What is the study about? 

Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute is currently investigating the effects of new medicines and developmental compounds on fat and sugar metabolism. These compounds may lead to new future treatments for type 2 diabetes.

This project also aims to understand the mechanisms behind development and progression of type 2 diabetes. 

Who can take part?

  • Males
  • Aged 35-65 years
  • Overweight
  • Individuals with pre-diabetes, or type 2 diabetes, or healthy
  • Currently not taking any medication
  • Non-smokers or Ex-smokers 

What's involved?

Visit 1 (3 hours)
Comprehensive medical check by a cardiologist
Oral glucose tolerance test Electrocardiogram (ECG)

Visit 2 (2 hours)
Muscle and Fat biopsies
The biopsies are a simple procedure conducted under local anaesthetic.
