The sleep study
Do you have type 2 diabetes, snore, or are tired and would like to find out if you have Obstructive Sleep Apnoea?
Baker IDI Heart & Diabetes Institute is currently conducting a clinical trial that aims to investigate the effects of treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) on glucose control in people with type 2 diabetes.
Current research indicates that patients with type 2 diabetes, who receive treatment for their OSA, show significant improvement in glucose control.
What’s involved
During Phase 1 you will answer a questionnaire about your level of sleepiness and have body measurements taken. You will perform an overnight sleep study (at home) to determine your risk of OSA. If you are at risk of having OSA you will be eligible to take part in Phase 2 (treatment phase). During the 6 month period we will require you to visit the clinic monthly.
Study Summary
This 6 month study has 2 phases: Phase 1: Identifies people who have OSA. Phase 2: Evaluates the effect of treating OSA on blood glucose control.
Possible benefits
By participating in Phase 1 you will find out whether you have OSA and you will get better information about your overall health. By participating in Phase 2 you may benefit from a better night’s sleep and an improved quality of life. The improvement in OSA may also lead to better glycaemic control.
Who can participate
f you have type 2 diabetes (not on insulin), snore, or are tired and would like to find out if you have OSA you may be eligible for this study.
