Pump Intro and Pump Prep

Diabetes services - product

Insulin pump therapy helps some people with type 1 diabetes to manage their diabetes with confidence, control and flexibility.

Insulin pump therapy is becoming increasingly popular in patients with type 1 diabetes. Insulin pump therapy replaces the need for administration and involves the use of a small electronic device delivering rapid acting insulin (Humalog, Apidra or Novorapid) on a continuous basis in much the same way as the pancreas. The pump is programmed to deliver a very small amount of insulin every few minutes at various rates over a 24-hour period (basal dose). With each meal or snack the pump is prompted by the wearer to deliver an amount of insulin that will match the carbohydrate content of the meal or snack (bolus dose). It can have numerous benefits including a reduction in hypo and hyperglycaemia, improvement in HbA1c levels, greater flexibility and improved quality of life.
