Our Services
The combination of both medical and educational services is what makes the Baker IDI diabetes clinic the most comprehensive facility for the treatment of diabetes. A National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) outlet is also available on site for patients to obtain all their diabetes supplies.
Medical Services

GPs can refer their patients to one of the institute’s medical specialists for an individual appointment. A written report is provided to the patient’s GP within five working days of a visit so that specific follow-up can be initiated where required.

A pathology service is available for patients to have blood tests performed at the time of their medical appointment, with results available immediately for their treating doctor.

For patients who are at risk of vision loss from diabetes retinopathy, the Baker IDI diabetes clinic offers appointments with an Ophthalmologist who provides screening for diabetic eye disease and treatment of eye disease. Appointments with an Optometrist are also available.
Education Services

Individual consultations with a credentialed diabetes nurse educator are available. During these sessions, the diabetes nurse educator will focus on understanding diabetes and treatment options whilst providing advice and support on taking an active role in improving the management of diabetes. These sessions also provide comprehensive education to people commencing insulin, insulin pump therapy.

Individual consultations with an accredited practicing dietitian with qualifications and skills to provide expert nutrition and dietary advice are available. During these sessions a dietitian will assess the patient’s nutritional needs, develop personalised eating plans, and offer nutritional counseling and support. These sessions also provide information on healthy eating, shopping for food, eating out and preparing food at home.

A qualified counsellor is available to help patients who have been diagnosed with diabetes, to assist with support in dealing with a range of emotions, feelings and everyday issues.

Group education programs are an ideal way for individuals and their families to learn more about living with diabetes in a group setting. Programs are delivered by diabetes nurse educators and dietitians and are specifically tailored to people with both type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
