What is the study about?
Scientists at Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute recently discovered that individuals with type 2 diabetes, who were treated with HDL or good cholesterol, showed improvement in their glucose control. We now aim to further investigate the mechanisms behind this exciting discovery. This research may ultimately lead to a new treatment for type 2 diabetes..
Who can take part?
- Males
- Aged 35-65 years
- Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes
- Currently not taking any medication
- Non-smokers or Ex-smokers
What is involved?
Visit 1 (3 hours)
Comprehensive medical check by a cardiologist
Oral glucose tolerance test Electrocardiogram (ECG)
Visit 2 (2 hours)
Muscle biopsies
The biopsies are a simple procedure conducted under local anaesthetic.
